When You Need Occupational Therapist Assistive Technology in Adelaide
Bridging Potentials can provide you with an occupational therapist for assistive technology in Adelaide if that is what’s needed and recommended. As a paediatric occupational therapy clinic, we usually field out most of our occupational therapists in the high-risk assistive technology category. Many items in the high-risk assistive technology category usually require clinical expertise as prescribed. More often than not, the NDIS will require an AT application if you’re looking to fund these items.
But Bridging Potentials is here to help you and your child. That’s why we always have an occupational therapist for assistive technology readily available to attend to your needs. Our OTs can assess, recommend, and provide AT items that you or your child may need. They can also train you on using AT. The best part of our service is that our OTs can collaborate with you to help you maximise the chosen AT.

Occupational Therapist For Assistive Technology in Adelaide: AT Risk Levels and OT Support
The support you will need from an occupational therapist for assistive technology in Adelaide is dependent on the risk and the cost of the AT item as determined by the NDIS.
Low Risk AT Products. These are products that you or your family can choose with limited advice or setup from an OT or AT advisor/assessor on how to use them safely. These are products that have a low risk of causing harm when used regularly in living environments. Example items for this category are non-slip bathmats, eating utensils, shower stools or chairs, handrails, portable ramps, and the like.
Higher Risk AT Products. These are all AT products that need advice from an OT or AT advisor/assessor on how to use them safely. AT products that are regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration are considered higher risk. Example items for this category are bed sticks and other transfer aids, mobility and postural support or correction devices, prosthetics and orthotics, breathing support devices, and the like.
Check NDIS Assistive Technology Product Risk Table for more information.
Costing Categories for AT
If you’re after NDIS support and funding, you might as well check out how NDIS has categorised AT products in order for you to get the funding you need for the AT you require, While you don’t need to indicate quotes for the AT you require, a cost estimate should be included as evidence that you need the said AT to ensure NDIS that you are getting the right AT.
- Low-cost assistive technology – Under $1,500 per item.
- Mid-cost assistive technology – Between $1,500 and $15,000 per item.
- High-cost assistive technology – Over $15,000 per item. Items valued over $15,000 will require a quote.
Note that mid cost and high cost AT products will usually require advice from an OT or AT advisor/assessor on how to use them safely.
